Ole Miss to Launch Inclusive “READY” Higher-Ed Program for Young Adults with IDD

UNIVERSITY, MS - October 14, 2025 The University of Mississippi will debut READY, a four-week residential inclusive higher education program beginning in July 2026, specifically designed for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

Participants will live on campus, enroll in classes, explore student life, and work toward certificate tracks that facilitate employment readiness. The program aims to foster independence, inclusion, and a clearer path into the workforce.

To make READY accessible, Ole Miss is seeking $125,000 in private gifts; over $30,000 has already been pledged. The initiative was inspired by student theses in the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College, and the program will be housed in the Division of Student Affairs in collaboration with multiple campus units.

An informational session will be held Oct. 20, and prospective participants and their families will be introduced to the program in January. Ole Miss leadership hopes READY establishes a “new model” in inclusive higher education, setting a precedent across the Southeastern Conference and beyond.
