University of Utah Proposes Free Tuition for Many In-State Students via “For Utah” Program
SALT LAKE CITY, UT - October 14, 2025 The University of Utah is introducing a new scholarship initiative called “For Utah”, which aims to cover full tuition and mandatory fees for eligible in-state students who qualify for the Pell Grant.
To be eligible, students must be Utah residents, apply by December 1, maintain Pell eligibility, and uphold a minimum 3.0 GPA during their enrollment. The scholarship is structured as a “last dollar” award, meaning it fills the gap after other grants and aid are applied.
While this program eases the tuition burden for many, it does not cover costs such as housing or books.
The “For Utah” initiative signals the university’s commitment to boosting access and equity in higher education by removing a key financial barrier for low- and moderate-income students.
